About Us

Word & Spirit

As followers of Jesus our community is shaped by the Word of God and filled with the Holy Spirit. Together they make it possible for us to become friends in Christ.

In the Bible we read the story of God’s purpose for his people. It’s an epic love story. There’s big characters who make tragic mistakes and who must ultimately be saved by a small town Messiah who’s Father has planned a big surprise. It’s a page-turner.

But it’s also haunting, not only in that it exposes humanity’s deepest fears, but because it’s like an unfinished novel beckoning us to become characters in its closing chapters. We can’t just put this book down and walk away.  It calls for a response.

That’s where the Holy Spirit helps. The Spirit, which Jesus likened to the wind,

energizes us to do things we couldn’t do alone. Our hapless efforts become graceful reunions. Couples reconcile, enemies forgive, addictions break, runaways return. We’re actually involved in God’s recreating of the world. And the best is yet to come.

It’s a thrill to witness. But we can’t explain it. Poets and artists among us can express its reality (see video above) but to the human mind the life of the Spirit is a mystery.

We are “People of the Book and People of the Wind.”  Word and Spirit. And we are sent out to show others what’s happening - Christ is Risen, God’s Kingdom is coming.
